Our Applied Drug Development students develop the practical and professional skills utilized across the lifecycle of drug development, manufacturing, and ongoing safety management. Sakshi Balgi

Sakshi’s passion for pharmaceutical sciences stems from a lifelong curiosity about medicine and a deep desire to make a difference in people’s lives. She is particularly interested in researching treatments for conditions like Vitiligo, Acne, and Keloids, which impact many individuals and often lack effective solutions. Studying biomedical science has strengthened her analytical skills and deepened her understanding of drug mechanisms. Sakshi is eager to contribute to advancements in biopharmaceutical research, working towards innovative treatments that improve healthcare and pursue research that transforms healthcare for the better.

Jewel currently works as a Clinical Pharmacist at Sakra World Hospital in India.

Itzel’s goal is to be able to come out of the program understanding more of the dynamics of pharmaceuticals throughout your body and it affects, but also how to work in a lab creating then drugs or testing them out.

Amanda is a Supervisor of Regulatory Affairs at Medline Industries. She is excited to figure that out more in the program and is happy to start in regulatory affairs and progress from there.

Jordan is currently working as a Laboratory Assistant at Arrowhead.
Outside of her professional activities, Jordan enjoys cycling. She is also a member of the University of Wisconsin Rowing team.
Shruti Jatinbhai Patel

Shruti’s professional interests lie in applied drug development, with a strong focus on pharmaceutics, pharmacology, formulation development, and translational research. Through this program, she aims to strengthen her understanding of the drug discovery-to-development pipeline, regulatory considerations, and industry-oriented research practices. Her goal is to pursue an industry-driven career in pharmaceutical sciences, contributing to the development of safe, effective, and innovative therapeutics.
Outside of her professional activities, Shruti enjoys singing, writing, sports, fictional readings, public speaking, and martial arts.
Simon Perez
Credentials: BS, PMP
Simon is currently working as a Project Manager, CMC at Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals. He is passionate about advancing therapies that make a real difference in people’s lives. Through the Applied Drug Development program, he wants to gain a deeper understanding of the drug development process, from research to regulatory approval. His goal is to apply what he learns directly to his work in project management, helping improve efficiency and cross-functional collaboration. Long term, he aims to grow into a leadership role where he can help guide innovative drug development strategies.
Outside of his professional activities, Simon enjoys learning, working, and racing cars, biking, and identifying and developing business ventures.
Victoria Perez

Victoria is currently working as an Associate Production Scientist at MilliporeSigma. Her professional interests include molecular modeling, metabolic engineering, and advanced mathematics. One of her professional goals includes exploring analytical chemistry to pursue a career in analytical development for pharmaceutical production.
Outside of her professional activities, Victoria enjoys playing guitar, writing music, and solving puzzle cubes.
Layne C Talbott

Layne is an Associate Chemist at Celanese Corporation. He is interested in drug discovery, specifically organic synthesis of investigational new drugs. He hopes to learn more about the drug discovery process as well as regulatory information regarding new drugs.
Sheena Tenney

Sheena is currently work as a Senior Manager in Biostatistics at IAVI. She joined the program to deepen her understanding of product development. By expanding her knowledge, she hopes to gain greater insight into the broader development process and position herself for growth into new areas while strengthening the work she already does.
Outside of her professional activities, Sheens enjoys traveling, vacation planning, studying European history, gardening, and most of all spending time with family!
Daniela Leon Vargas

Daniela is currently working as a QC Technician at Bell International Laboratories. Her professional goal is to contribute to drug development by creating new treatments for opioid overdoses and neurological disorders. She aims to achieve this by reducing side effects and focusing on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs to better target key pathways in the body.

Sara Zandi

Sara holds a degree in pharmacy and has gained several years of hands-on experience working in the pharmaceutical industry. Her interest in pharmaceutical sciences has grown beyond conventional drug formulations, leading her to explore the manufacturing of biological products. Recognising the rapid advancements in biotechnology and its potential to revolutionise healthcare, she is eager to deepen her understanding of this field.
Sara has chosen to pursue this program, which offers comprehensive training in the latest methodologies, regulatory frameworks, and scientific advancements. Her ultimate goal is to be actively involved in formulating and producing groundbreaking therapies that address unmet medical needs.
